The most common allergic condition in the US, allergic rhinitis (AR) affects nearly 40 million people. A chronic condition that negatively impacts productivity and quality of life, AR remains largely undertreated. For some sufferers, comorbidities such as asthma, sinusitis, otitis media, sleep disturbances, and nasal polyps make treatment all the more imperative. While current therapies have proven only modestly successful, emerging therapies offer the promise of more effective management.
Allergic Rhinitis and Its Comorbidities: A Serious Challenge to the Healthcare Professional will provide primary care clinicians with up-to-date, evidence-based information on the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of patients with allergic rhinitis.
Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:
- Describe key clinical characteristics of allergic rhinitis, its associated comorbidities, and its impact on patient health and quality of life
- Identify barriers to treatment success of allergic rhinitis (treatment-related, physician-related, and patient-related barriers) and adequate control of symptoms, and devise strategies for overcoming those barriers
